A Fredericton microbrewery is now among the most acclaimed cider producers in the world.
Red Rover Craft Cider won two awards, including a coveted top prize, at the Great Lakes International Cider and Perry Competition (GLINTCAP) this month, the world’s largest cider judging.
The brewery’s Summer cider placed first in Best in Class Modern Dry, while its yet-to-be-released Barrel #2 reserve cider won second place in Best in Class Specialty.

“There’s only ever been an honorable mention in the Maritimes before,” Red Rover owner, Adam Clawson, told the Telegraph Journal in an interview this week. “It really shows that the Maritimes is starting to blossom in the cider making region.”
The 12th edition of GLINTCAP — held annually in Grand Rapids, Michigan — featured 1,206 entries. The competition runs similar to a wine judging, with multiple golds and silvers awarded. Gold winners are judged against each other to award the first, second and third-place designations.
“We actually won first place of the best in class from all the gold from around the world, which is pretty nice,” Clawson said.
Red Rover has been perfecting its Spring and Summer cider for the last four years. Clawson says their dry cider is the company’s signature beverage. “When we went in this year we put in what we would think of as our best catch yet and it seems like the panel thought so as well which we are very excited about.”
The brewery won four bronze awards last year at the same competition.
