Attention News Editors: Lois Corbett, Executive Director, released the following statement with respect to today’s announcement about the federal government’s draft carbon pricing legislation:
The Ministers today put forward a system for pricing carbon pollution that will make polluters pay their fair share and move us faster toward a low-carbon economy and new job opportunities for New Brunswickers in clean energy and energy efficiency.
The proposed system looks at all sources of pollution across the economy and gives industry short-term incentives to improve and cut the emissions that cause climate change.
The legislation, when passed, would require annual reviews to track progress and make adjustments as needed. It’s a good thing to shine the light on industrial carbon polluters and add transparency to their operations.
