Our Learning Outside Coordinator, Nadine Ives, and a couple of our new summer interns were in beautiful St. Andrews this week helping the summer campers at the Dragonfly Centre for Autism plant their brand-new pollinator garden.
Everyone was all smiles after spending the day digging in the soil and planting flowers with Nadine and some of amazing volunteers from the community. Check out all the great pics at the Dragonfly Centre for Autism Facebook page.
This project wouldn’t be possible without everyone that took the time to dig up a few of their extra pollinator-friendly plants to donate to the kids. The Dragonfly Centre pollinator garden was the first of three we’re building this summer, to be followed by gardens at Milltown Elementary and Back Bay Elementary over the next few weeks. We look forward to more smiling faces.

Do you live in the area and you want to help? It’s not too late! We’re still accepting plant donations (see list of species below). You can drop them off at Sunbury Shores Arts and Nature Centre (or, if you’re near Fredericton, at Conserver House, 180 St. John St.).
The project was organized in collaboration with the Sunbury Shores Arts and Nature Centre and our Learning Outside Program, with funding from the Fundy Community Foundation. The goal is to create safe places where the kids in St. Andrews can learn about the power of pollinators, gardening, and just how much fun learning outside can be.
We’re interested in these plants or their equivalents:
- Bee-Balm
- Black-eyed Susan
- Blue Flag Iris
- Butterfly weed and common Milkweed
- Echinacea
- Common Columbine\Goldenrod
- Trumpet Honey Suckle
- Blue Bell
