The Conservation Council’s Lois Corbett spoke with Adam Huras from the Telegraph-Journal about the government’s missed opportunity to focus on energy efficiency and climate change in the 2017-18 budget.
“The government missed an important opportunity when it chose not to increase spending to help low-income families and seniors invest in energy efficiency retrofits for their homes,” said Corbett.
“Last year, the government announced it would fund 100 per cent of the cost NB Power incurred for programs designed to help low-income families retrofit their homes and invest in better appliances and heating options. That program covers a mere 100 homes each year for three years. There is currently an 18 plus month waiting list for the program.”
The Department of Environment overall budget envelope was reduced by $1.9million for the coming year.
