We’d like to give a hearty spring shout out to three of the Conservation Council’s talented volunteers, supporters, and occasional bloggers — whom were all recently nominated as finalists in the magazine category for the prestigious Atlantic Journalism Awards.

Kudos go out to Deborah Carr for her Saltscapes published article “The Lightkeeper’s Daughters” which follows the story of a family of lightkeepers for Grindstone island, a tiny Bay of Fundy island overlooking Five Fathom Hole — the infamous little dock where we often catch our breath during our annual Musquash Paddle.

Best of luck too, to Tom Cheney and Nick Hawkins for their article “Sons of the River” which appeared in the latest edition of the Atlantic Salmon Journal, where they give us a detailed account of a canoe trip down the Miramichi River.

The Atlantic Journalism Awards will be presented in Halifax on April 29. We’re certainly glad we don’t have to choose.

And speaking of knowing great writers and photographers, nominations are now open for the Conservation Council’s Southeast Chapter’s 2018 Beth Mclaughlin Award for in-depth and thoughtful coverage of environmental issues in New Brunswick.

All entries must be received by July 31st, 2018, and the award will be presented in the fall 2018.  Submit entries to Conservation Council of New Brunswick, Southeast Chapter Environmental Journalism Award Committee at ccnbsoutheast@gmail.com.
