CCNB’s Inka Milewski gives Senate Fisheries Committee a reality check on Aquaculture Regulation in Canada

CCNB’s Science Advisor, Inka Milewski, recently presented before the Senate Standing Committee on Fisheries and Oceans concerning their study into the ‘regulation of aquaculture, current challenges and future prospects for the industry in Canada.’

Inka challenged the claim that Canadian aquaculture is over-regulated by comparing the regulation of aquaculture to other industries and to the regulatory regimes for aquaculture in other countries. Inka further made the case that an Aquaculture Act, as requested by industry, would not serve to better manage aquaculture in Canada or, more importantly, protect the sensitive environments in which aquaculture operations are located.
