(St. Andrews) — Fundy Baykeeper Matt Abbott is featured in a lengthy article in the Financial Post about the proposed Energy East pipeline project, saying we need to look beyond the perceived short-term benefits and consider the many risks associated with the project.
The pipeline “is designed to gain access to global markets for Western oil and I understand the motivation for that; locally a lot of the motivation and excitement around it is around jobs, but my contention is the jobs put at risk aren’t being factored in,” says Abbott.
The Conservation Council argues Energy East would increase the risk of oil spills, harm our local marine life and the local fishery, discourage tourism and risk irreversible damage to our province’s rivers and lakes.
