The five-member expert panel, set up by Federal Natural Resources Minister James Carr to provide advice on how best to modernize the National Energy Board (NEB), heard from the Conservation Council at its meeting in Saint John in March.
Conservation Council’s Fundy Baykeeper Matt Abbott and volunteer Scott Kidd wrote the submission.
The Expert Panel members are: David Besner, Wendy Grant-John, Brenda Kenny, Hélène Lauzon (co-chair) and Gary Merasty (co-chair).
Putting the NEB under scrutiny is one part of a larger federal government commitment to review its major environmental, energy and regulatory processes, including:
•Reviewing federal environmental assessment processes;
•Modernizing the National Energy Board; and,
•Restoring lost protections and introducing modern safeguards to the Fisheries Act and the Navigation Protection Act.
