Our Executive Director, Lois Corbett, told media outlets the new report on water quality at Parlee Beach provides important baseline information on the health of Shediac Bay and urges decision-makers to “step back and think about the bay” when considering any new development.
Corbett spoke to the Moncton Times & Transcript, CBC New Brunswick, and CBC Information Morning Moncton following the release of the summary and technical reports, prepared by scientists and engineers after an 18-month investigation, on Friday, April 20.
“One report looking at the impact of increased growth in the four study areas, says that if we continue to grow at this pace and don’t make any changes, we won’t be able to sustain this pace and keep the water clean,” Corbett told CBC News. “So that’s a shout-out to village and town councillors, and to the Department of Environment and Local Government that says, ‘make sure you respect what these scientists and engineers said when pulling this data together, before granting willy nilly permits or large coastal developments or even just paving over more of our coastal wetlands — step back and think about the bay.’”
