Dimanche: A theatrical journey into our climate future

What if we continued life as usual while our world fell apart?

Belgian companies Focus and Chaliwaté put this question front and centre in their imaginative and comedic take on the climate crisis in Dimanche

The climate crisis may not sound like the best material for a comedic production, but the absurdity of how humanity continues to ignore it in the face of disaster is certainly ridiculous.

Dimanche brings this idea to life through theatre, film and puppetry. It tells the story of a family trying to enjoy their Sunday as storms rage and landscapes shift. However, they stick to their routine, ignoring the chaos outside.

Meanwhile, three wildlife reporters fight to capture the last traces of a disappearing world. The result is a show that makes us think about how we respond to climate change—and whether we’re doing enough.

But Dimanche isn’t just about climate change. It’s about human nature. It’s about our ability to ignore problems until they are too big to handle.

The show presents this in a way that’s both hilarious and unsettling. The family’s stubborn commitment to normalcy feels familiar, even as their home is falling apart.

Their world is crumbling, yet they refuse to acknowledge it.

Sound familiar?

With breathtaking visual effects, innovative puppetry and a blend of reality and fiction, Dimanche is an experience like no other. It takes a serious topic and presents it in an engaging, entertaining and thought-provoking way.

This unforgettable performance will be at the Fredericton Playhouse on Friday, Feb. 28, at 7:30 p.m. With stunning visuals, clever humour and a powerful message, Dimanche will stay with you long after the show.
