Louise Comeau presents Jan. 18 on need for electricity reform
Dr. Louise Comeau, Director of our Climate Change and and Energy Solutions program, will tell MLAs on the Standing Committee on Climate Change and Environmental Stewardship that an updated provincial climate action plan won’t be complete without a strategy for shifting our energy system to at least 80 per cent renewables by 2030 and better programs supporting New Brunswickers to install more energy-efficient insulation, doors and windows in their homes.
The standing committee hears from experts and Indigenous representatives over the next three weeks as the provincial government begins the process of renewing its climate change action plan.
Presentations take place on Jan. 13-14, Jan. 18-21 and Feb. 8. Dr. Comeau presents on Tuesday, Jan. 18, 2022 at 10 a.m.

Comeau will present on the need for electricity reform in New Brunswick—transitioning our energy system to affordable, reliable and sustainable renewable energy by investing in solar and wind owned and operated in New Brunswick.
She’ll also outline recommendations for better protecting citizens’ health and safety in the face of climate change effects and increasingly severe extreme weather events, and the need to fully engage citizens in these important discussions.
A public consultation period will run from Jan. 24, 2022 to Feb. 24, 2022. We’re preparing resources to help New Brunswickers have their say on climate action when the online consultation portal is live.
The committee will hear from a variety of presenters, including: Sackville-based CLIMAtlantic Inc, the Intact Centre on Climate Adaptation, the Belledune Port Authority, Dunsky Energy + Climate Advisors, the Canadian Home Builders Association New Brunswick, Nature New Brunswick, the New Brunswick Environmental Network, the Agricultural Alliance of New Brunswick, energy utilities in Edmundston, Saint John and Perth-Andover, and NB Power, among others.
Stay tuned to this space for news on the presentations and updates on the broader public consultation.
