EcoNews: Involving all NBers in growing the green economy

This update lets you know about a forthcoming avenue for all New Brunswickers to engage in the plan to address climate change and grow our low-carbon economy, an upcoming event to get out on the beautiful Hampton Marshes in May, a petition related to controversial aquaculture practices, and more.

Engaging all NBers on climate change
The Conservation Council welcomed the provincial government’s move to create a Select Committee on Climate Change in April. As Louise Comeau, our new Director of Climate Change and Energy Solutions, recently told the Telegraph-Journal, the select committee is an opportunity to involve all New Brunswickers in the plan to grow the green economy in New Brunswick and protect our families from extreme weather, sea level rise and other climate change impacts. Read more about the select committee and what it will do.

Petition to remove caged salmon from oceans
Those following our work on fisheries habitat and aquaculture might be interested in this petition calling for the removal of caged salmon from our oceans. The federal government has promised to revisit changes to the Fisheries Act, and we recently signed on to a letter asking for a repeal of regulations that weakened the rules around pesticide application in open net pen aquaculture.
