With more 30 C or hotter days coming in the future, New Brunswickers need to prepare themselves for the effects that accompany the warmer weather.
“You’re going to see more extreme heat,” Kim Perrotta was quoted as saying in Brunswick News. The Canadian Association of Physicians for the Environment executive director spoke at climate change forum organized by the Conservation Council of New Brunswick earlier this month.
“By 2050, there will be two to three times as many days that are over 30 degrees. That’s crazy when you think about it, and such a significant change from what we all grew up with,” Perrotta said.
Fredericton can expect the most 30 degrees or hotter days. While it averages around eight such days a year, it’s expected the capital city will annually average more than 20 days between 2021 and 2050. Moncton will go from six days to 16.
The meeting was based around a report, prepared by Conservation Council consultant Louise Comeau.
