Today, Lois Corbett, Executive Director of the Conservation Council of New Brunswick was featured in CBC article commending Walmart’s move to charge five cents for plastic bags in Maritime stores.
“Customers are ready for it,” said Corbett. “I think that New Brunswickers in particular understand the impact of wastefulness. We tend to be a quite thrifty type of people.”
Corbett told CBC reporters that big corporations like Walmart should always be looking to find ways it can help the environment. Now it’s just up to other big corporations to follow Walmart’s example and start a snowball effect.
“What Walmart does, other retailers may have to do as well just to remain competitive,” said Corbett.
