Attention News Editors: Lois Corbett, Executive Director, issued the following statement with respect to Premier Brian Gallant’s cabinet shuffle announced today:

“We welcome the Hon. Andrew Harvey (MLA — Carleton-Victoria) as he takes over the role of Minister of Environment and Local Government. We look forward to working with the Minister on bold and innovative measures to protect our air, land and water.

We will rely on Minister Harvey to carry on the important work underway in implementing the water protection strategy to ensure the health of our drinking water, our rivers, streams, lakes, and bays, and our iconic Parlee Beach. There’s a big task ahead not only in the cleanup of the villages and towns all along the devastating route of the St. John River flood, but also to develop modern watershed protection laws to protect water quality. The Minister will no doubt also move forward on climate change and ensure we act boldly and with great ambition on the government’s climate action plan to reduce carbon pollution, make New Brunswick a regional leader on building a clean electricity system, and create new, green jobs in renewable energy and efficiency.

We wish to thank the former Minister, the Hon. Serge Rousselle, for his dedicated public service. We commend the Minister for his commitment to building a comprehensive water protection strategy for New Brunswick, and for steering the province toward a stronger, sustainable economy built upon rewarding jobs in renewable energy and efficiency through the province’s climate change action plan. We wish the Minister and his family well as he retires from public service.”
